Who's actually running this

I'll be straight with you: this is my first trip. Here's why you should still come.

I'm AJ. I've never run a group trip before — this is the first one I've ever put my name on. So why should you trust it?

Because I'm not running it. Insider Colombia / Grupo Privato is. They approached me about bringing my audience to Cartagena, because they've been doing this for 12+ years, with 500+ groups and 35+ properties, and they wanted a real person on the U.S. side to curate the guest list. I vetted them, I picked the dates, I locked in the pricing, and I'm showing up with you. But the guys running the ground — the villa, the yacht, the two hosts who stay with you the whole trip — have been doing this long before I was in the picture.

Here's the thing: Privato's service — the private villas, the yacht charters, the hosts who handle everything from the airport to the nightclub — used to only be available to celebrities, athletes, and high-net-worth clients. Now they're opening it up. Same villas. Same yachts. Same hosts. But at a group rate that a normal guy with a 9-to-5 can actually afford. That's what $3,300 gets you. This is Trip #1. I want it to be so good you come back for Trip #2.

What you're actually getting

This is not a tour. It's five days living above the rest of Cartagena.

Most people see Cartagena from a hotel lobby. You're going to see it from a rooftop, a yacht deck, and the back of a villa that most tourists never get invited into. Here's what that actually looks like.

01 — The Mansion

Your own Cartagena compound.

A private villa in the best part of Cartagena. Rooftop. Pool. Kitchen running on a private chef. Two bilingual hosts with the group the entire trip. For five days, this is your house — ten guys, one address, full run of the place. No hotel hallways. No 3 a.m. noise complaints. No sharing anything with anyone who isn't on the trip.

10 bedrooms · Rooftop · Pool · Private chef · 2 bilingual hosts
02 — The Yacht

68 feet of open water.

A full day on a 68-foot Azimut, captained by the same crew we've used for years, cruising out to the Rosario Islands. Lunch is served on the back deck. The bar is stocked before you step onboard. You jump off the bow whenever you want, swim to the island, come back, repeat. The day a lot of guys say was the best day of the entire trip.

Captain & crew · Lunch on board · Full bar · Islands stop
03 — The Nights

Your nights, taken care of.

Night 1 is welcome dinner and cocktails at Mirador Culture Bar — rooftop views over the old city, the whole group together. The other nights are pool parties back at the villa and the clubs you choose — your hosts walk you in, your table is booked ahead. You don't translate a menu. You don't argue a cover. You walk in, sit down, it's taken care of.

Private-chef welcome · Villa pool parties · 2 hosts every night

Every question you have

You probably have questions. Here are the answers.

We wrote down every question a skeptical first-timer would ask — even the ones that feel weird to ask out loud. Read them before you DM.

How do I know this is legit?

Fair question — and because this is the first trip AJ is running, you deserve a real answer.

The operator is Grupo Privato SAS, operating as Insider Colombia. They're a Cartagena-based company that's been running high-end private group trips for 12+ years, with 500+ groups in the books. Their website is privatocolombia.com — you can see their full catalog of villas, yachts, and activities right now. The villa you're staying at is on Google Maps with its own real reviews.

AJ's role is curation: vetting the operator, picking the dates, locking in the pricing, and bringing the guest list. He's also going on the trip — so if it's a scam, he's on the wrong side of it too.

No money is taken when you apply. AJ reviews every application personally. If you're a fit, he texts you directly — and only then do you pay via a secure invoice issued by Grupo Privato SAS (not a Venmo link, not crypto, not a CashApp). If anything about the booking process feels off, walk away. We'd rather lose the sale than have you feel tricked.

Is Cartagena safe?

Cartagena is one of the safest cities in Latin America for tourists — especially when you're inside a vetted operation like this one. But "safe" isn't the right question. The right question is "am I going to feel safe the entire time?" — and the answer is yes, because:

  • You have two bilingual hosts with the group the entire trip — from the airport to the nightclub to the yacht and back.
  • Every transport is pre-arranged. You never flag a street taxi, never walk into an Uber with a stranger, never wonder if you're headed the right way.
  • We stay in the vetted villa zone — not a random Airbnb in a sketchy neighborhood you found for $40/night.

The single biggest mistake Americans make in Cartagena is trying to do it alone. This trip is literally the opposite of that.

What if I pay and the trip doesn't happen?

Two scenarios:

Scenario A — not enough people book. The trip runs with a minimum of 6 confirmed. If we don't hit it by our cutoff (we'll tell you the exact date after acceptance), you get a full refund, no questions asked, back to the same method you paid with.

Scenario B — you can't make it last minute. Your spot is transferable to a friend up until 14 days out. Beyond that, the refund policy depends on whether we can fill the spot. We'll walk you through it before you pay — in writing — so you know exactly what's what.

Who exactly handles the money?

Payments run through Grupo Privato SAS, the Colombian-registered parent company of Insider Colombia. You pay a secure invoice issued directly by the company — the receipt shows up with the company's real name on it. If you need an invoice billed to your business, we can do that too. No crypto, no bank wires to personal accounts, no screenshot-a-QR-code nonsense.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

No. Zero Spanish required. Both hosts are bilingual and with the group the entire trip — restaurants, drivers, the yacht captain, the spa, the nightclub, the airport. If you speak Spanish you'll get a richer trip. If you don't, you won't notice because the hosts handle all of it for you.

What if I'm coming solo? Is this awkward?

This trip is designed for solo men. Realistically, most of the group will be flying in alone. By the end of Day 1 you'll have 9 new friends — and the format (villa + group dinners + group activities) is specifically built so you're not sitting at a table of 10 strangers. This is not a tour bus. It's a house party that happens to move around Cartagena together.

What's the vibe? Party trip or chill trip?

Honestly? Both, and that's the point. Night 1 (Thu) is the welcome dinner at Mirador Culture Bar — rooftop cocktails, full group together, sets the tone. Night 2 (Fri) is the big night — after a full day on the yacht, hosts take the group to a lounge or nightclub, entry covered. Night 3 (Sat) is Bora Bora Beach Club all afternoon, then Salon Tropical for dinner, then Alquimico cocktails — a long, great day. Night 4 (Sun) is the BBQ pool party at the villa + open night, whatever the group wants.

Day 4 has the spa and massages baked in because you'll need it after Nights 2 and 3. If you're looking for a 5-day monster bender, this isn't that. If you're looking for a 5-day dry retreat, also not that. It's the middle — the version that lets you fully show up for every night without destroying yourself.

Do you book flights?

No — you book your own flight into Cartagena (CTG). We pick you up at CTG baggage claim on Thu June 18 and drop you back on Mon June 22. Most U.S. travelers find it easiest to arrive early afternoon on Thu (before 2pm so you don't miss the welcome dinner) and fly out mid-day on Mon. We'll send you a recommended flight window after you're accepted.

Who's the actual host on the ground?

Once you apply and get accepted, AJ's team will send you the hosts' full names, photos, and direct WhatsApp. You'll be in a group chat with them before you ever land. They've run dozens of these trips — same villa, same yacht captain, same drivers — and both will be with you from CTG arrivals to CTG departures.

How do I actually pay?

Here's the exact flow:

  1. You fill out the application form at the bottom of this page.
  2. AJ reviews your answers and texts you personally within 24 hours.
  3. If you're a fit, he sends a secure invoice for the deposit to lock your spot.
  4. You pay the invoice. Receipt lands in your inbox. You're in.

No one on this page — including AJ — is asking you to send money to a personal account, pay in crypto, or click a payment link in a DM. If anything ever looks different from the flow above, stop and call it out.
